Health Benefits for Weight Loss and Fitness

I have recently gotten a new health plan. This prompted further investigation on my part as to any entitlement in additional health discounts on my new plan. I was happy to find that there were several discounts available for my use just by showing the company my new health plan identification card. Probably the best benefit that I found was for Bally’s. However, there were benefits for Jenny Craig, Jazzercise, Weight Watcher’s and more. I do not know if I will make any use of them, but it is nice to know that they are there just in case I … Continue reading

Weight Loss: The Jenny Craig Way

Everyone knows who Jenny Craig is. She started her program back in 1983 and it has soared to dynamic proportions. Her weight loss program has featured success stories from well-known people, such as Phylicia Rashad, Valerie Bertinelli, Kirstie Alley, and Queen Latifah. Jenny followers credit her success with her focus not on dieting, but rather her philosophy as a lifestyle change. Jenny Craig’s weight loss plan consists of three very logical elements that everyone should apply for healthier living. Her first focus is on making good food choices with a concentration on portion controlled eating and nutrition a priority. Jenny’s … Continue reading

Jenny Craig Changing Directions in 2008

By now you’ve probably seen the new Jenny Craig ad campaign starring Queen Latifah. In fact, you may have even seen one of those commercials back to back with a Pizza Hut commercial featuring her voice. Scary, huh? Which voice do you listen to? But I digress. Jenny Craig offered Kirstie a contract for 2008 but she declined. The word is that although Kirstie considers Jenny Craig the best weight loss program there is, she doesn’t see herself as a part of the new direction that the company is directing its ads. The new approach is less about dropping the … Continue reading

Queen Latifah to Join Jenny Craig

I love Queen Latifah. She’s a bold, proud, strong woman who makes no excuses for her plus sized body and has always been secure in her voluptuousness. Regardless of her size, you could always count on seeing this diva in drop dead gorgeous dresses that fit perfectly when she strolled down a red carpet. There were never any mu-mus for this lady. She’s got curves and she’s not afraid to show them off. Personally, I can’t think of a better role model for young girls today, regardless of their color or lack thereof. Latifah’s mama taught her what we should … Continue reading

Giving Some Weight to How We Think About Weight Loss

I talked about apathy the other day and I got a great response from Fit4Life on the subject of why it’s hard to write about weight loss motivators. Hats off to you for providing such great insight to the topic. A lot of us don’t necessarily know what is motivating our weight loss. It may be that we’ve experienced a health issue or bad diagnosis. Maybe we tried on those jeans we used to be able to wear and we can’t snap the button anymore. It could be we just don’t like what we see in the mirror or we’re … Continue reading

Confessions of a Foodie Mom: What Does Work?

I’ve whined about my plateau in several of the last blogs. I’ve talked about my problems. (I hope they’ve been some use to somebody, if only to let you know I commiserate with you.) Now I need to consider the recent past as well as previous weight losses and ask myself: What does work? When I was a teenager, I would designate every other week as a “diet” week. No matter what, I wouldn’t eat sweets that week. (My mom, who wanted me to lose weight, still thought I was silly to pass up strawberry pie, given that it was … Continue reading

Losing It: And Gaining My Life Back One Pound at a Time

Valerie Bertinelli has been seen lately on magazine covers and on a variety of talk shows thanks to her recent weight loss success. Valerie, now a Jenny Craig spokeswoman, has lost 30 pounds and looks wonderful. I caught a glimpse of her one day last week on a talk show and she is just glowing as if to say, “I cannot believe that I did it!” What I find remarkable and an oddity is that Valerie does not seem as affected as some that have reached stardom do. It is a good thing to see that she is a “real” … Continue reading
